Obituary

John Paul Linde, 64, of Willmington, DE and formerly of Custer, SD passed away suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007 in Buffalo, NY.

John was the youngest of six brothers born to Reinhardt and Martha (Lyndoe) Linde in Rapid City, SD and he was raised in Custer, SD. He then graduated from the University of Wyoming with a BS in mechanical engineering. He spent his first 20 years of business with the Remington Arms Co in Illian, NY where he was plant superintendent and was also their chief firearms designer. He then worked for the DuPont Company in Wilmington, DE before taking an early retirement to pursue a career as an entrepreneur. He was President of Solid Surface Acrylics, Inc. - a business he founded in 1993 in N. Tonawanda, NY, making solid surface acrylic tabletops for commercial establishments. You can see his tabletops all over the world.


John loved traveling, hunting, exploring his faith and had an on-going quest for knowledge.


John is survived by his wife, Lynne Linde of Wilmington, DE; two sons, Richard Weston Linde of Thornton, CO; Jason Paul Linde and his wife, Jacqueline, of Chevy Chase, MD; his step-daughter, Jennifer and her husband, Kristian, Fanning of Wilmington, DE; brothers, Jack (Sharon) Linde of Custer, SD; Robert (Jan) Linde of Custer, SD; and David Linde of Rapid City, SD. John had three beloved grandchildren, John McLaughlin "Jack" Linde, age 5 ½; his little buddy Collin Fanning, age 3 1/2 and a new granddaughter, Mackenzie Fanning, age 3 months.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bruce and Gerald Linde.

Visitation will be held at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer, SD on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the Custer Community Church with Pastor Martin Nussbaum officiating. Interment will follow at the Custer Cemetery. Immediately following the burial, there will be a light luncheon served at the church.


There will be a memorial service in Buffalo, NY at a later date.


In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage everyone to donate to their favorite charity.
