John Alan McKillip, age 60, went home to his Lord on June 21, 2010 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He passed in his home in Pringle, SD with family at his side.
John was born in Sioux Falls on December 6, 1949 along with twin brother Robert. He graduated from Washington High in 1968. John and his twin Robert, joined the Army in 1969. John was stationed in Germany and served in the Armored Division where he drove a tank. After an honorable discharge he worked for Triangle School Supply in Sioux Falls.
John's love of sports landed him a position to coach "girl's softball" for years. He suffered a disabling stroke in 1983 while playing in a baseball game. His last hit was a "home run". John was passionate about his love of sports up to the day he passed, especially the N.Y. Yankees and Green Bay Packers.
John was preceded in death by brothers, Jimmy, Gary, Kerry and his father, William.
He is survived by his mother, Bernice of Pringle, SD and siblings, Sharon Lewis, Pringle; Gayle Brown, Tea, SD, Bill McKillip, Wentworth, SD, Betty Best, Pringle, Carolyn Jensen,Pringle, Robert McKillip, Sioux Falls, SD, Mike McKillip, Crook, SD; Barry McKillip, Mickleton, NJ; Barbara Bradfield, Sioux Falls; Kathy Best, Edgerton, MO; Linda Hanson, Sioux Falls and Mark McKillip, Athol, ID; 30 nieces and nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 24, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 25, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating.
Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs with Military Honors provided by the National Guard Honor Guard and the Hot Springs Veterans Honor Guard.
