Obituary

John Delano Rock, 71, of Hot Springs, SD passed away November 16, 2007 at the Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs.

John was born January 30, 1936 to William H. and Mable (Mathieu) Rock in Groton, SD. He graduated from the Groton High School in 1954 and then went on to earn a BS degree from the University of Minnesota in 1959. John served his country as a member of the Minnesota National Guard from 1958 thru 1960. John began his career with General Motors on July 1, 1960 and held assignments in sales, service, marketing and general management in the following divisions; Buick Motor Division, Corporate Staff, Holden Australia, GMC Truck Division and Oldsmobile Division. John married his wife, Bonnie Stephens on March 29, 1968. In 1991 John was named as a Vice-President of General Motors, a position he held until his retirement in 1997.

John currently held board positions with the South Dakota Board of Economic Development, of Pierre, SD, Regional Health Network, Inc. of Rapid City, SD; The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, Chamber of Commerce of Hot Springs, Black Hills Economic Development, Inc. of Sturgis, SD, Rush Enterprises, Inc. of San Antonio, TX and Vice President and Director of Groton Auto and Tractor Co. of Groton, SD. In addition to these and other past boards, John took the time to care for the individuals in the area as a volunteer for the Senior Meals Program in Hot Springs.

John was a man who worked hard for the causes and the people he cared for and will be greatly missed.

No funeral or memorial services will be held to honor John's wishes.

John is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Bonnie of Hot Springs and one sister-in-law, Sue Rock of Groton; a nephew and several nieces.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Matthew and William as well as one sister, Vera G. Dean.
