Obituary

John Estes Suter, Jr., of Hot Springs, SD, passed away November 26, 2013, at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home.

John was born December 3, 1927, in Malta, MT, to John Suter, Sr. and Helen (Davis) Suter. He served in the United States Army Air Corps. from 1945 thru 1947. John retired as a Fire Captain for the California Division of Forestry in 1984, and remarried Virginia Renstrom on May 25, 2005.

John was well liked by everyone he met and spent his whole life with a German Gnome on one shoulder and Irish Leprechaun on the other. The Leprechaun finally took him out. John was a lifetime member of Toastmasters, a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts and a member of the Hot Springs 7th Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; children, John 'Ed' (Kandis) Renstrom of Hot Springs; Beverly (Bud) O'Dell of Wichita, KS; Sandra (Ernest) Nauman of Spearfish, SD; Eric (Becky) Renstrom of Douglas, WY; Tanya Suter of CA; Mike Suter of CA; Denise Suter of CA; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and son, John Karl.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at the South Dakota State Veterans Home in Hot Springs with Rev. Joe Story and Chaplain Loyd Nielson officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.

The family would like to suggest memorials in John's name be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
