Obituary

June Rudell Moen, 95, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away January 15, 2015, at the Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs.

June was born June 8, 1919, in Hillsboro, ND, to John and Anna (Bakkum) Kaldor. She was baptized and confirmed at the Aal Lutheran Church in rural Hillsboro.

June married Lawrence Moen on November 20, 1938, in Hatton, ND. In 1946, they bought a farm south of Pleasant Lake, ND, and farmed there until they retired in 1980. Not only did June do the normal duties of a farm wife in those days, she also helped take care of the livestock-anything from feeding to milking to pulling calves on occasion. She also loved and did her share of the field work and could operate any piece of machinery on the farm better than most men.

Upon retiring, they moved to Hot Springs and bought a place right on Fall River, which they loved dearly. They also had an RV and spent 28 precious winters boon docking in the southwest Arizona desert. They made many wonderful friends over those years. Music was their passion. June played accordion and Lawrence played the mandolin and they entertained people wherever they went.

June is survived by her children, Lyle Moen and Pam Luchau, both of Hot Springs: two grandchildren, Stewart Moen, of Maryville, TN; Brenda (Terry) Thomas of Interior, SD; one sister, Eleanor Ostlund of Mayville, ND; several very special nieces and nephews; as well as her best buddy for the past 6 years, her dog, Skeeter.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence of 68 years; granddaughter, Cheryl; brothers, John and Lynn; sister, Bernice Moen; son-in-law, Byron Luchau and daughter-in-law, Pat.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 22, 2015, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs at a later date.
