June Isabelle (Jameson) Wilkinson of Hot Springs, SD, passed away May 14, 2014, at the Pine Hills Retirement Center in Hot Springs.
June was born on May 28, 1924, in Chadron, NE, to Clyde E. and Etta Belle (Moyer) Jameson. She attended school in Chadron, graduating from High School in 1941. She married Marvin L. Wilkinson on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1943, in Chadron. To this union a daughter, Carolyn Kay, was born.
June and her husband lived in Oklahoma until he was sent to the Philippines. June returned to Chadron and worked for L.C. Larson Real Estate & Insurance there until Marvin came home from WWII in 1946. They then moved to Greybull, WY, and lived there until 1953, when they returned "home" and started farming on Unit #1 of the Angostura Irrigation Project near Hot Springs, SD.
June was employed in a variety of clerical and accounting positions. In Wyoming, she worked part-time at the Sale Barn. In South Dakota, she worked first at Wind Cave National Park, then, in the Fall River County Treasurer's, Assessor's, and Auditor's Offices. She was particularly proud of the years she served with Maude Petty in the Auditor's office, where she was Maude's deputy for two terms. In 1959, she went to work at the Veteran's Administration Center, first in Dietetics, then in the Fiscal Office, where she was instrumental in the conversion from manual to computerized records. After nearly 30 years of Governmental service, she retired in 1986.
After retirement June and Marvin, traveled to both coasts, Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, and nearly every year to Michigan to see their daughter. They both became involved in Genealogical Research on family lines and made several trips, following the paths of their Ancestors. In July 2013, they moved from the farm to Pine Hills Retirement Community, where the renewed old acquaintances and made new friends.
Her relationship with Jesus was primary in June's life. She was baptized and became a member of the American Baptist Church of Chadron at age 12, playing the old pump organ and teaching primary age children in Sunday school as a teenager. Through the years she was active in whatever church she called "home," doing office work, teaching Sunday school, providing leadership in American Baptist Women's Associations and serving on the church Board of Trustees.
June is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Kay Crawford of Midland, MI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was followed in death by her husband, Marvin L. Wilkinson of Hot Springs; and preceded in death by her parents, half siblings, Mildred (Backus) Darlington, Hazel (Backus) Garner and Walter Backus.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at the United Churches in Hot Springs, SD, with Pastor Clint Walker officiating. Interment will be 2:00pm., Friday, May 23, 2014, in the Wilkinson family plot at Greenwood Cemetery, Chadron, NE.
