Obituary

Jurene Thorson Pollock Youtzy, 93, of Custer, SD, passed away on July 18, 2018, in Custer.

Jurene was born February 15, 1925, in Ellendale, MN, to Gelbert and Emma (Jansen) Thorson.   She attended and graduated high school in Ellendale and graduated from nursing school in Albert Lee, MN, in 1945.  Jurene worked as a surgical nurse and then as a polio nurse, following the polio epidemic to Texas and Illinois in the late 1940's.

Jurene met Foster Pollock in Aurora, IL, and was united in marriage to him from 1950 until his death in 1974.   Jurene and Foster had 2 children, Barbara and Ginny, and she worked as a school nurse for West Aurora School District from 1965 to 1985.

In 1985, she married Earl Youtzy and they were married until his death in 2004.   Jurene and Earl were active in their church and with the Salavation Army.  Jurene was always known as a caretaker and she nursed several family members through long illnesses.

Moving to Custer in 2004, she spent her last 10 years lovingly being cared for at Rose Haven.  Jurene loved books, traveling, children and God.

Jurene is survived by her daughter, Ginny (Joe) Jackl of Custer; grandchild, Jennifer (Ron) Rogers and their children, Kaylee and Mason; grandchild, Jamie Sarnow (Pierre) and their children, Hazel, Noella, Ari and Josiah; grandchild, Karlie (Kevin) Mark and their children, Mollie, Lucy and Olive; grandchild Max (Elyse) Jackl and their children Naomi and Ezra.

Jurene was preceded in death by 2 husbands, Foster Pollock in marriage 1950-1974; Earl Youtzy in marriage 1985-2004; daughter, Barbara Pollock Marrello; parents, Gelbert and Emma Thorson; 2 brothers, Ira Thorson; Alonzo Thorson; 3 sisters, Hazel Thorson; Nora Thorson Peterson; Evelyn Thorson Sime.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2018, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer with Pastor Clark Struebing, Sr. officiating.   Committal services will be held at a later date at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Aurora, IL.

A memorial has been established in Jurene's name to benefit the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, area of donor's choosing, 8701 Leeds Rd, Kansas City, MO 64129.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home, Custer, SD.
