Karen Louise Brown, age 76, of Custer, SD, passed away April 30, 2015, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Karen was born November 20, 1938, in Minneapolis, MN, to Elvin B. and Muriel Louise (Hedlund) Johnson. Karen graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1960 with a degree in home economics. She married Jim Brown on June 10th 1960. They had three children- Kathy, David, and Molly. When they returned to the Black Hills in 1983 they opened the Dakota Trading Post and ran it for 5 years. Karen worked at the Dakota Cowboy for 27 years and also worked at the Dakota Mart grocery store. Karen's hobbies included cooking, home decorating, cultivating flowers, and spending time with family and friends.
Karen is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Wrangham of Grand Forks, ND; Molly Brown of St. Paul, MN; son, David Brown of Pierre, SD; and three grandchildren, Jesse Wrangham, Shawna Wrangham, and Haley Brown. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, sister Paula, and husband Jim.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Chamberlain-McColley's Funeral Home in Custer with Pastor Tom Opoien officiating.
A memorial in Karen's name has been established to benefit the Custer Public Library.
