Kathy Marie Herrlein, of Custer, SD, 54, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, SD.

Kathy was born and raised in Platte, SD, to Duane and Theresa (Hanson) Herrlein. Kathy graduated from Platte High School, and later attended Black Hills State University, and Mitchell Vo-tech, where she graduated with an associate's degree in Accounting. After College, Kathy lived in Yankton, SD, and Pipestone, MN, before moving and settling in Custer in 1987, with Joel Schwader and their two children Joshua and Melissa. Kathy met Jeri Hewitt in 2002, and spent her remaining years with Jeri raising their child Robert.

Kathy was an avid baker, who loved to cook and a person who enjoyed her crafts. She was devoted mother, who loved watching and raising her 3 children. She will be remembered for her big heart, loving and generous personality, and her endless compassions for others.

Kathy is lovingly remembered by her partner Jeri Hewitt, Custer; sons, Joshua (Amber) Schwader, Box Elder; Robert Hewitt, Custer; daughter, Melissa Schwader, Rapid City; step-granddaughter, Kathryn Rayner; father, Duane Herrlein, Kimball; brothers, James Herrlein; David (Tabitha) Herrlein; Kenneth Herrlein; Matthew Herrlein; sisters, Julie (Dean) Anderson; Dorothy (Bob) Kuipers; Mary (Doug) Nelson; many nieces and nephews; extended family, Jay (Cheryl) Hewitt; Dawn (Jon) Amick; Francine (Mark) Johannson; and countless friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Theresa (Hanson) Herrlein

A wake will be held 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Custer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Kerry Prediville, Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Kathy's name at Black Hills Federal Credit Union.
