Kenneth Eugene Conley of Hot Springs, SD, died peacefully at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs, on July 4, 2015, at the age of 64.
Kenneth Conley was born on May 24, 1951, in Vallejo, CA to Jean and Leroy Conley. He graduated from Colton Union High School, in Colton, CA in 1969, where he first met his wife-to-be Arlene in bookkeeping class on first day of school senior year.
Kenneth volunteered for the US Army in June of 1969, where he remained until he retired in October of 1990, with the rank of Sergeant First Class. Kenneth graduated from Washburn University of Topeka, KS, with a degree in respiratory therapy in 1993. He served as Respiratory Director at Clay County Medical Center, Clay Center, KS, for nine years. More recently, he served our veterans via the Veterans Administration as a registered respiratory therapist at the Spokane, WA, and Hot Springs, VA Medical Centers. He retired in January 2014.
Kenneth and Arlene reunited many years after high school and married in 2008.
Kenneth held a private pilot's license, was instrument rated, and participated in the group ownership of a Cessna 172. A spur of the moment flight to Bismarck, ND, in 2013, completed his list of having visited all fifty states.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Arlene Conley; daughter, Colleen (Carl) Parker of Suffolk, VA; son, Christopher Conley of St. George, KS; daughter, Cassandra Conley of Manhattan, KS; parents, Leroy and Jean Conley of Hot Springs; grandchildren: Mattieson, Charles, Mary and Noah Parker of Suffolk, VA; sisters, Carol Conley of Sacramento, CA, Delores (and William) Herren of Manhattan, KS; and Darlene (Kenneth) Greer of Meadow Vista, CA.
Memorial services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Chamberlain-McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs with Chaplain Martha Beck officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Kenneth's life.
Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
In lieu of flowers, and in gratitude for the respiratory therapy education Kenneth received, contributions may be sent to the Washburn University Foundation, 1729 SW MacVicar Ave., Topeka, KS 66604 to benefit the Respiratory Therapy Program Fund.
