Kenneth Raymond 'Kenny' Rutter, 88, of Oral, SD passed away September 20, 2007 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Kenny was born August 2, 1919, in Mitchell, NE to Ross and Edna Rutter. He attended public schools in the Mitchell area and entered the United States Army on March 25, 1942 and served until his honorable discharge on November 13, 1945.
Kenny married Audree Deines on August 20, 1942 at Harrisburg, NE. The couple farmed in the Mitchell, NE area until moving in 1956 to the Angostura Irrigation Project at Oral, SD where Kenneth actively farmed and ranched until 2001.
He was a member of the Hot Springs V.F.W. and served on the Fall River County ASC Committee for many years. He was especially proud of his work on the Angostura Irrigation District Board. He enjoyed farming, raising livestock and telling his wonderful stories.
Kenny is survived by his son, Kenneth (Kathleen) Rutter of Albuquerque, NM; three grand children, Ryan D. Rutter at the USAF Academy; Grant K. Rutter at the USCG Academy; Kelley K. Rutter; sisters-in-law, June Dittenber of Mitchell, NE; Mary (Lawrence) Faegler of Torrington, WY; Ruth Ewing of Loveland, CO as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 23, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., September 24, 2007 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, SD with Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating. Interment will be held 2:30 p.m., Monday, September 24, 2007 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Military Honors will be provided by the Sturgis Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established in Kenny's name to benefit the Oral Volunteer Fire Department, Oral, SD.
