Kenneth Roger 'KR' Stamp was born December 7, 1928, in Yakima, WA, to Lucille Stamp. His boyhood was on the Yakima Reservation attending elementary school in Toppenish, WA. He graduated from high school in Mabton, WA. He attended six months of college before joining the U.S. Navy in July 1951 serving 4 years. He was awarded the National Defense, Good Conduct, United Nations, Chinese Service, Korean Service medals and the Japanese Occupation Badge. KR left the Navy in July 1955 and went to work for US Airlines for one year, he then joined the U.S. Army and served one enlistment. After the Army he worked in various occupations including oil field, short order cook and ranching.
KR came to Hot Springs, SD, in 1979 and remained in the area, his last residence was in Custer, SD. He retired from the State Department of Corrections in the South Dakota State Park in 1990.
In 1952 he was united in marriage to Marian Alexanderov, to this union one son was born. On March 28, 1981, he was united in marriage to Lola Perigo of Custer. Lola passed away in December 1996. On October 11, 1997, he was united in marriage to Maudine P. Lauseng of Custer.
He was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Hill City and served as a Deacon. He loved life and people. He will truly be missed. He loved his Lord most, he is now with him in heaven.
KR died March 7, 2013, at Custer Regional Senior Care after a brief struggle with pulmonary disease. He was preceded in death by his mother, his son, two step-daughters and one step-grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Maudine of Custer; five step-sons, sons, Leroy (Doreen) Lauseng of San Diego, CA; William Lauseng of Zion, IL; Wendell (Joyce) Lauseng of Fairmont, MN; Cameron (Deborah Lauseng of Whitmore Lake, MI; Russ (Carol) Perigo of Custer; two step-daughters, Roselee (Donald) Blazek of Rush City, MN; Bonnie (Robert) Brooking of Rockford, IL; nineteen step grandchildren; twenty eight great step-grandchildren and two great-great step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service which is at 10 ;00 a.m., Thursday, March 14, 2013,at The Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Hill City, SD, with Pastor Brian Anderson officiating. Interment will be held at 2:30 p.m., at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD, with Military Honors provided by the South Dakota National Guard and the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guards.
Memorials in KR's name have been established to benefit either The Light House Assembly of God Church or The American Lung Association.
