Laurel was born on November 9, 1924, in Spalding, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Frank and Jesse Lake. She was next to the youngest of 9 children. The family moved back to the United States and settled in Buffalo Gap, SD. She graduated from Buffalo Gap High School in 1942. Penney, Kewit Construction, and the VA Medical Centers in Hot Springs, Fort Meade, SD, and Miles City, MT. She retired from the VA as Chief, Fiscal Services in Miles City.
She and Buddy had a motorcycle shop in addition to their full-time jobs. During vacations they toured the US and Canada on their motorcycles. After Buddy passed in 1988, Laurel continued to ride her Gold Wing and made many trips to visit friends and family. She was still riding into her 80's. She liked golfing, bowling, walking-especially along Fall River Road, square dancing, reading, playing cards and dominos. She especially liked seeing a good part of the world while taking her cruise trips.
