LaVerna Marjorie Wing, age 91, a long time resident of Edgemont, passed on at her home with her four children by her side on July 11, 2012.
LaVerna Muntz was born May 19, 1921, to Fred and Cecil Muntz in Havelock, NE. Havelock later became a suburb of Lincoln, NE. LaVerna attended school and graduated from Havelock High School in 1938. Upon graduation LaVerna followed her parents to Edgemont, SD.
LaVerna did a variety of jobs including Post Office clerk, sale barn clerk, bank teller, city auditor, licensed insurance agent for Southern Hills Agency, bookkeeper for Fall River Gas, and served on the city council. With her sister, Jackie, she created and operated a business called 'The Knit Shop'.
On December 3, 1945 LaVerna married E. Duane Wing in Hot Springs, SD. They had four children, Carol Jean, Jane Ann, Diane Delores, and Duane Lloyd.
In addition to raising their four children, LaVerna also kept books for Duane's garage business for 51 years. Duane died October 22, 1995. LaVerna enjoyed her family, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, cross stitching, painting, solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, fishing, reading and playing Scrabble. She enjoyed utilizing the latest technology for reading and communicating with her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Robert) Van Cleave of Oelrichs, SD; Jane Ann (David) Henderson of Edgemont; Diane (John) Kane of Four Corners, WY; and son, Duane (Moneic) Wing of Rochester, MN; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Virginia (Everett) Wing of Casper, WY.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, E. Duane; a stillborn son, and her sister, Jacqueline (Art) Pearce.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the United Church in Edgemont with Dr. J. Edwin Coates officiating.
A memorial has been established in LaVerna's name to benefit the Edgemont Volunteer Ambulance Service.
