Leada "Mae" Asebroek, 80 years young, of Custer, SD, passed away May 7, 2016, at the Custer Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mae was born August 10, 1935, in Creighton, NE, to Edward O. Boll and Minnie K. Hoppe. She grew up and graduated from Scribner High, in Scribner, NE, in 1953, then from Wayne College, Wayne, NE, in 1954. At the age of seventeen she had her first teaching job just outside of Scribner, NE. In 1954, Mae went to work for the Forney Ranch south of Rushville, NE. Here is where she met Russel Reeves, of Chadron, NE. Mae and Russel were married on April 30, 1955, and to this union were born three children, Kenneth Dwain; Terri Lynn; and Everett Lee. Mae taught in several of the rural schools from Hay Springs, NE, to Harrison, NE. In 1975, she graduated with her Associates Degree from Chadron State College. Mae finally retired in 2000. On May 5, 2000, Mae married Raymond Asebroek of Custer. Both were very fortunate to be able to travel through numerous states including a trip to Alaska and an Australian cruise.
Mae is survived by her husband Raymond of Custer; Kenny and Tammy Reeves of Guernsey, WY; Terri and Jim Fankhauser, Black Hawk, SD; Everett and Missy Reeves of Belle Fourche, SD; Judy and Roy Walker of Murrieta, CA; Curt and Gwen Eiklor of Rapid City, SD; Randy and Suzanne Asebroek, of Vista, CA; Bill and Donna Asebroek of Lake Havasu, AZ; sisters, Genene Meissner of Marshfield, MO; Ranitta Piland of Fordland, MO; Diane Dunton of Uehling, NE; Christi Tressler of Brevard, NC; Ann Little of Cordova, TN; seventeen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded by her parents, two brothers, Don, Pete, and a sister, Laura Ellen.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Homes in Custer with Pastor Bob Hower officiating. A celebration of her life will follow at the VFW Post #3442 in Custer.
A memorial has been established in Mae's name to benefit the Custer Volunteer Fire Department.
