LeRoy Gordon Anderson, 76, of Custer, SD, died on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at Rapid City Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.
LeRoy was born September 14, 1939, to Sylvia Margaret LeDoux and Charles Gordon Anderson and lived his formative years at the Anderson farm located near Belle Prairie Township, Minnesota.
LeRoy was a lifetime baseball player with a wicked curve and known as the "Mighty Right-hander". He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He started his working career on the Kainz farm as the general manager and also at Larson Boats. On June 12, 1961, he married Gayle Sharon Kainz at Holy Cross Church in Harding, MN. The couple lived in Minnesota until 1965 when they moved to Custer, SD when he changed careers and worked as a lineman for Kainz Contractors. He retired from Black Hills Electric Cooperative as line-foreman in 2005. He was a devout Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. Hobbies included woodworking, gardening, bowling, hiking, working with his hands. He enjoyed volunteering on wildlife projects in Montana with his son. He was an active Member of Knight of Columbus, Lay-Minister at St John the Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughters, Brenda (Greg Johnson) Anderson of Custer; Nicole (Jason) Ostenson of Edgemont, SD; son, Neil (Sue) Anderson of Kalispell, MT; brothers, Ralph (Nancy) Anderson of Little Falls, MN; Kenny (Laura Hansen) Anderson of Little Falls, MN; sister, JoAnn (Dean) Doroff of Swanville, MN; grandchildren, Trevor Anderson, Megan (Chris) Andrews, Trevor, Mason, JJ, and Fallon Ostenson; great-grandchildren, Kai Barr and Raina Andrews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 51 years, Gayle.
Vigil and Visitation will be held Friday, January 1, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The funeral will be January 2, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's with Father Kerry Prendiville and Deacon Pat McCoy officiating. Interment will be at the Custer Cemetery following the funeral service. A time of fellowship will be held after the interment at the Senior Center on Mt Rushmore Road.
Pallbearers will be Trevor Anderson, Megan Andrews, Trevor Ostenson, Mason Ostenson, David Anderson, and Mike Anderson.
