LeRoy Duerson of Hot Springs passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, at Seven Sisters Living Facility at the of age 93. He was born on February 2, 1924, the third of five children to Roy and Sylvia (Darby) Duerson in Edgemont, SD. He was raised on the family ranch south of Hot Springs and attended Maitland Country School. He attended high school in Hot Springs and graduated in 1943.

LeRoy proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged from the First Separation Company in San Diego in August of 1946. He worked for a time at the Hot Springs VA and later moved to Cheyenne, WY where he served an apprenticeship to become a carpenter. He married Bertha Allen on January 12th, 1952. The couple left Cheyenne in 1960, to return to the family ranch until their retirement to Hot Springs in 1995. LeRoy loved ranching, and often employed his carpentry skills to shingle houses in the area. During retirement, he was an active member of the Hot Springs Senior Center and the United Church.

LeRoy will be fondly remembered for his outgoing nature and ability to strike up a conversation wherever he went, and for his patient caregiving of his wife as she struggled with dementia prior to her death in 2015.

LeRoy is survived by his daughter, Sherrie (Bob) Bosse of Vermillion, SD; brother-in-law, Orval Allen of Sutherlin, OR; sister-in-law, Josie Baird of Oakland, OR; and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 63 years; his parents; step father, Louis Duerson; sisters, Francis Stahl and Marie Underwood; brothers, Bobby and Billy Duerson.

Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Committal services will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs with Military Honors.
