Leslie Purl Madison, age 88, formerly of Hot Springs, SD, and Blum, TX, went to heaven rejoicing on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, to join his parents; wife, Florence; adopted sister, Geraldene; and many more of his family and friends.
Leslie Purl Madison was born in Ft. Pierre, SD, on August 14,1927, to Walter and Marguerite (McFarling) Madison. On December 21, 1945, he married Florence Ross and she preceded him in death on July 17, 2002. He later married Sally Wingard on February 1, 2003. Leslie attended Moody Bible Institute, Rockmont College, and Dallas Theological Seminary, where he obtained his Masters and Doctorate of Theology. While he was in Colorado, he stared the Kendrick Bible Church near Rush. After finishing his doctorate work at Dallas Seminary, he became the first pastor of Northwest Bible Church in Fort Worth. He was called to be the president of Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, Missouri from 1974-1991, and also served as it's chancellor for several years. He was active most of his life in the Independent Fundamental Churches of America and served several different offices, including president for two terms. He retired to Hot Springs, SD, and lived there full time until 2002 when he moved to Texas to be near his daughters and grandchildren. Leslie had a long, faithful, and fruitful life serving God.
Survivors include his daughters, Joanne (Warren) Burkett of Blum, TX, and Ruth Burkett of Peoria TX; five siblings, Elizabeth Cooley, Ruth Spicer, June Wood, Pearl Risinger, and Don Madison; seven grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs with Pastor Matt Lim officiating. Committal services will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
