Leta Marie Shively, age 86, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away August 8, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City.
Leta was born February 26, 1927 on a farm south of Presho to August and Bertha (Ganshirt) Schultz. She attended rural school for eight years and graduated from Presho High School in 1944. Leta attended and graduated from Roberts Beauty School in 1944 and then owned and operated a Beauty Shop until 1948 in Presho.. In 1948 and 1949 she attended Minneapolis Minnesota Music College and then attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD from 1949 through 1950. Upon graduating, Leta began a teaching career where she taught school in Pierre, SD, Charles City, IA. and Rapid City, SD. She returned to Northern State University, Aberdeen where she received her BS Degree in 1960. Leta then taught in Palatine , IL and Edgemont, SD until her retirement in 1988. She moved to Hot Springs, SD in 1986.
Leta was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, parents, and brothers, Glenn and Ambrose.
Survivors include her step-son, John (Sheri) Shively of Sioux Falls, SD; two step-daughters, Jayne (Dale) Reid of Spearfish, SD; Patricia (Fernando) Augustine of Hot Springs; three step-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild. Also survived by loving nieces and nephews including Paulette Schultz of Hot Springs; Loretta (Alan) Kehr of Austin, TX; Kathryn (Dale) Hunsley of Pierre, SD; sisters-in-law, Gloria Schultz, Bernice Schultz and many other loving family.
Wake services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 5, 2013, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs with Father Kerry Prendiville officiating, Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
