Obituary

Linda June Kilcoin (62 yrs of age) of rural Hill City, South Dakota, passed away in the early morning hours of February 2nd,2020. By her side was William (husband), Kristen (daughter), and Ruskin (son). Also , comforting Linda in her last days were family members, Mike, Darin, and Linda Kilcoin of Woonsocket,SD. And a very close, long time friend of the family, Val Howey of Hill City, SD.

Linda was born in Wessington Springs, South Dakota on May 16th 1957 to Lambertus and Marjorie Van Dyke. Being born the only surviving twin, Linda often felt and spoke of the void left by the loss (stillborn) of her twin brother. In Linda's early years of life she loved to read, ride the pony's, and always had a bad case of the "Rock Pox"...(she could never resist that perfect rock that needed to go home with her). Also, Linda spent alot of time helping her "daddy" with catalog layouts for the families taxidermy supply mail order business.  Linda excelled in music. She loved to play the piano. And sang at countless weddings and funerals throughout the years.

Linda attended Woonsocket Public Schools K-12....however she completed high school in only 3 years. Linda then went on to Dakota Wesleyan University, to earn her college degree in 3 years also! Linda achieved a double major in English and History. And a minor in Political Science. Graduating in the top of her class, as "suma cuma laude"!

At a very young age, Linda became deeply interested and involved with politics. Bringing her to meet her first husband, campaigning for him and sucsessfully assisting him in a race for a senate seat. Giving her a little opportunity and experience in the State Capital. Linda also dabbled in selling real estate.

On September 8th,1979, Linda married her...should we say...sparing partner and love of her life, Bill Kilcoin..AKA~ "Wild Bill"...    From this union, two children were born... Kristen Angela & Ruskin James...

In later years, Linda's love for nature and the outdoors led her to become a Master Gardener and Girl Scout leader. She also had a endless love for animals. Giving a home to many pets along the way.

All the while, being a bus driver for her own children. Linda was also an amazing cook!

Very creative and never following a receipe, but no one ever went hungry at her house... Along with all these activities and titles, Linda always played a key role in the families taxidermy and restoration mail order business,"Van Dykes Supply".

Linda was always extremely kind and generous to those in need. Always lending a helping hand and she was a pillar to her family and closest friends. She will surely be missed....

Linda was preceeded in death by her parents Bert and Marj Van Dyke, infant twin brother Lyndon Jan, Maternal Grandparents Frank and Margaret Kempf, and Praternal Grandparents John and JoAnna Van Dyke.

Linda is survived by her husband Bill, daughter Kristen (Jessie), son Ruskin (Jenny), and three beautiful grandchildren Katelyn Jane, Quintyn Dale, and James Lee.

A Memorial Service will take place at the Red Canyon Ranch, southwest of Custer,SD (one of Linda's most favorite places to be) at a later date...

In closing, "Linda","wife," friend"," mom", & "grandma": Until we meet again,"May you also soar with the eagles"...
