IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lloyd E.
Flock
December 5, 1942 – June 21, 2025
Lloyd Ellis Flock, 82, of Buffalo Gap, SD, passed away June 21, 2025, at his home in Buffalo Gap.
Lloyd was born to Chet and Jessie Flock on December 5, 1942 in Downy, California where his father worked in the shipyards. When Lloyd was 2 the family moved to Holyoke, CO where his father was a blacksmith. At the age of 4, Lloyd and his family moved to the Grant Elsie area of Southwestern NE. Lloyd spent most of his childhood on a farm in this area. He loved the farm, except for the horses – he called them "hay burners." When he was 12, the family bought land and moved to a farm South of North Platte, NE. Lloyd learned to run the equipment and helped farm all the way through high school. He graduated from North Platte High School in 1960. Of course, he always had souped up cars and pickups and would tell stories about he and his friends, with or without their vehicles, doing things that probably should not be mentioned here.
After high school, Lloyd attended college for a short while in McCook, NE. He then moved to Denver, CO and worked as a computer programmer for the National Bank of Commerce. While there he met his first wife and had one daughter. The relationship didn't last, and he transferred back to North Platte with his daughter, Cathy and worked as a programmer for a branch of the same bank. It was here that he met Kay Jenniges who was teaching in Curtis, NE and they were married in North Platte in January of 1972.
In 1974, Lloyd decided to talk to Kay's dad, Norm Jenniges, about buying Jenny's Recreation (the pool hall) from him. Lloyd brought his young family back to Hot Springs where he owned and operated Jenny's Rec. for the next 43 years. They lived in town until 2009 when the call of the wild became unbearable and he bought 80 acres southeast of Buffalo Gap and built a home. He was back to his roots, so to speak, and he loved living in the country and seeing the wildlife and the hills. With the help of friends and neighbors this became a very productive farm.
Lloyd was kind-hearted and generous and a man who said what he meant and meant what he said. He was an avid sportsman who hunted from the northern reaches of Canada for moose to the southern regions of Texas for wild boar and everything in between. He could tell you all about cars including make, model, engine, transmission, carburetor, tires, etc. He could do the same with firearms and ammunition. Guns were a passion of his and he had quite a collection.
If he could catch someone's ear he could regale them with stories of his antics and escapades for hours. He loved visiting and no one was a stranger.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bonnie, and daughter, Cathy. He is survived by his wife Kay of 53 years, sister Karen Young (Omaha, NE), brother -in-law Frank Stewart (Hershey NE), and son-in-law Fritz Cole (rural Newcastle WY).
A memorial will be designated to the American Legion Baseball Program.
