Lloyd Earl Garnick, age 84, of Hot Springs, SD, a retired cowboy, trucker, and uranium miner with a passion for rock hunting died on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at the Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs, SD.
Lloyd was born on October 21, 1927, in Veteran, WY, to Arnold and Edith (Cross) Garnick. He grew up in Wyoming and met his wife, Viona (Oellrich) Garnick in South Dakota in 1948; they were married shortly after. They moved all over the Western United States, spending time in Colorado, Oregon and Alaska, settling back down in Edgemont, SD, to retire.
Lloyd spent his retirement years as a lapidary, finding rocks and friends all over the country, and as a church elder.
Survivors include his wife, Viona of Hot Springs; sons, Steven (Robin) Garnick of Sitka, AK; Wayne (Shannon) Garnick of Republic, WA; Keith (Jackie) Garnick of Sitka, AK; two sisters, Ellen Doty of Copan OK; Avice Fuerst of Douglas, WY; brother, Guy Garnick of Douglas, WY; eight grandchildren, Ptarmica; Joshua; Jeremey; Heather; Harmony; Sunshine; Coral; Justin; ten great-grandchildren; and numerious nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Frances; brothers, Everett; LeRoy; Charlie and grandson, Ryan.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2012, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Pastor Joe Story and Pastor Wayne Hayward of the Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Lloyd's name at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hot Springs.
