Lois Lynette Hanes, age 82, formally of Edgemont, SD, passed away October 30, 2015, at the Custer Regional Senior Center in Custer, SD.
Lois was born February 2, 1933, in Neligh, NE, to Julius and Neata (Clark) Hansen. She was raised in and around Martin, SD. Lois married her lifelong partner, LaVere Hanes on December 15, 1948. This union was blessed with five children. The couple moved to Edgemont in 1951 and made it their home to raise their children.
Lois worked in several restaurants in town. In the late sixties her husband was severely injured in a workplace accident which left him paralyzed and needing constant round the clock care. She was his primary caregiver for more than 25 years until he passed away on July 3, 1994. Lois also helped take care of her parents until their deaths. She raised her younger children mostly by herself, helped with the grandchildren and great grandchildren and taught them things they should remember forever.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Ronald Hansen, and one grandchild.
Lois is survived by her children, Linda Sedlacek, Lynn McCabe, Les (Lola)Hanes, all of Edgemont; Lloyd Hanes (Pat) of Yankton, SD; Larry (Juliann) of Custer; sister, Marjo Broyles of Hot Springs, SD,13 Grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Lois was able to meet and hold her newest great granddaughter only a week before her death. She was thrilled and it showed by the smile upon her face.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the St. James Catholic Church Parish Hall, in Edgemont with Fr. Claude Versure officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery.
