Obituary

Lora Jean (McKinstry) Lockhart of Oral, SD, went to be with her Lord on September 19, 2012. She was born on November 26, 1944, in Cresco, IA, to Raymond and Josephine (Moen) McKinstry. The McKinstry family moved to Rapid City, SD, in 1946, where Lori resided until she graduated from Rapid City High School.

Soon thereafter, she went to Tucson, AZ where she met Keith Lockhart from Hot Springs, SD. They were eventually married there and together they had two children, Grady and Stacy.

Most of the years spent in Tucson she worked at the school in which her children attended. In 1991, Keith and Lori moved back to Hot Springs. Lori said she wanted to be closer to family and be able to see seasons change again (She was often reminded of this decision by her family during times of sub-zero temperatures!)

Lori spent the last 20 years working at the Oelrichs School and ranching with her husband. She dedicated herself to her family and attended their activities such as rodeo, sporting events, and music performances. Throughout her life, Lori enjoyed riding her horses and barrel racing. She competed until the last few years.

Lori was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother that was always supportive and encouraging. One would see the joy in her eyes when she watched her grandchildren participate in various activities. She was the best cheerleader her grandchildren could ever have.

Survivors include her husband, Keith Lockhart of Oral; son, Grady (Lisa) Lockhart of Oelrichs, SD; daughter, Stacy (Cory) Elshere of Quinn, SD; brothers, Earl (Janell) McKinstry of Piedmont, SD;
Tim (Margaret) McKinstry of Rapid City, SD, and five grandchildren.

Lori was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Josephine.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2012, at the Prairie View United Methodist Church near Smithwick, SD, with Pastor Paul Smith officiating.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Lora's name to benefit the Oelrichs Rodeo Club or a charity of your choice.
