IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Loren Elsworth
Hobbs
December 8, 1944 – April 17, 2022
Loren Hobbs, 77, of Custer, SD, passed away April 17, 2022. Loren was born December 8, 1944, in Hot Springs, SD, to Harry and Bertha (Crofutt) Hobbs.
Loren, along with his brothers, worked at Linde's Sawmill for many years. Loren loved it here, would never consider leaving, and was known to say, "I'm married to Custer." Loren liked going on long car rides around the Black Hills to places like the Limestone area and adventures to Dewey. He enjoyed telling stories, watching sports (Denver Broncos were not his favorite team) and collecting. He liked walking and even if you didn't know his name you knew him from one of his many walks.
Many Custer residents knew Loren as a local historian and weatherman. He enjoyed visiting with friends, neighbors and family. He could "talk your ear off"...that's a good thing.
Loren is preceded in death by his father, Harry; mother, Bertha and sister, Leona.
He is survived by his brothers, Larry and Lonnie Hobbs; sister, Lavilla Russell; nephew, Terry Russell; nieces, Rhonda Reinhart and Rae Morgan and multitudes of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Loren is loved and will be missed by every single one of the people who survive him.
A Celebration of Loren's Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer. Condolences may be left at www.chamberlainmccolleys.com
