Louise (Parsons) Goins, 85, passed away May 21, 2007 at the Custer Regional Hospital.
Louise was born April 26, 1922 at Alkali Springs in the Limestone near Custer to Ola Parsons and Louis Wolfe. She was raised by her grandparents Harley & Jennie Parsons near Custer on a ranch. She attended the Custer Public Schools.
Louise married Clair Eugene Goins August 8, 1939 in Custer. Together they farmed near Custer until September of 1942 when they moved to the west coast living in Spokane, WA, Eugene Oregon and in 1944 they moved to Montague, CA where her husband was employed in airport construction work. In 1947 they moved to Longmont, CO and Byers, CO. In 1953 they moved back to Custer. She was later married to Robert Robinson and then to Chuck Gilles.
Louise was employed as a clerk at the Custer Ben Franklin Store, 4 Seasons Store, Gambles in Hot Springs and D-J Western Wear in Custer. In 1970 she became a driver's license clerk for the State of South Dakota traveling the Custer, Hot Springs, Edgemont, Pine Ridge and Martin circuit until her retirement in 1984. She was also an insurance agent for the Royal Neighbors of America. Louise enjoyed traveling, going to all of the contiguous States of the Union, plus Alaska and the Bahamas. She liked to spend lots of time doing her genealogy hobby using a computer as well as needlework and crafts.
Louise was a 4-H leader for many years in Custer County and she was a member of the Custer Senior Center, Eastern Star Chapter #173 of Custer, Cold Springs and Custer Historical Societies and she volunteered at the Custer Museum until her health failed. In 2005 Louise moved into Landover Estates and then to the Custer Nursing Home in July of 2006.
Louise is survived by four children, Martha (Norm) Grimme of Tyndall, SD; Barbara Pierce of Rapid City, SD; Wilma (Larry) Thompson of Pahrump, NV; Larry (Elaine) Goins of Pahrump, NV; eleven grandchildren, Steven (Melissa) Flamming; Jim (Heidi) Flamming; Janet Flamming; Gene Pierce; Tony (Des) Pierce; Ryan (Kate) Pierce; Lori Thompson; Wendy (Matt) King; Kristin (Chad) Taylor; Melanie (Jason) Thornburg ; Chad Goins; fifteen great grandchildren, Brady; Miranda; Jon; Wesley; Shawn; Kaleah; Reanna; Alison; Otis; Zoe; Zach; Mckenna; Amber; Carl; Nicholas; and one sister Reva (Dale) Logsden of St. George, UT.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, stepfather, Duncan Johnson; son-in-law, Jon Flamming; great granddaughter, Angel Pierce; special cousins, Helen Rypkema and Alice Sutherland.
A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer, SD.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Custer, SD with Pastor Bill Savery officiating.
Interment will follow at the Custer Cemetery in Custer.
Memorials have been established to benefit the Custer Histoical Society and the Eastern Star Friendship Chapter #173 of Custer.
