Lu Ann Gainey, age 62, of Hot Springs, SD passed away at her residence on Sunday, July 5, 2020.

Lu Ann was born on June 1, 1958, to William Rufus and Lois Ann (August) Atkinson, III. She loved the water and swimming. Lu Ann enjoyed entering swimming competitions to excel her swimming skills.

Lu Ann is survived by her husband, William Gainey of Hot Springs; son, Nicholas Dobratz of Rapid City, SD; daughter, Jennifer (Tony) Frey of Lisbon, IA; brother, William "Chip" (Karon) Atkison of Denver CO; sisters, Lori Farha of Wichita, KS; Catherine August of Kansas City, KS; and five grandchildren.

Lu Ann is preceded in death by her parents and son, Nathaniel.

Private committal services will be held at the Black Hills National Cemetery on July 16, 2020.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
