Lula Jane (Zimiga) Monroe was born August 3, 1946, in Pine Ridge, SD, to James and Grace (Hawkins) Zimiga. She grew up in Edgemont with her seven brothers and sisters. She married Arnold Monroe on June 27, 1966. Two sons were born to this union; Alan and Anthony (Tony). Lula, 66, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital on March 4, 2013.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold Monroe; sons, Alan Monroe and Tony Monroe, all of Hot Springs; one granddaughter, Ashley Monroe of Abilene, KS; two brothers, Marcleff Zimiga of Hot Springs; Carl Zimiga of Edgemont; one sister, Zabie Pearl Pudwill of Hot Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
A vigil will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, March 8, 2013, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs with Fr. Tim Hoag officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery.
