Obituary

Lyle James Reindl (1952-2025)

Custer-Lyle James Reindl, 73, of Custer, died Tuesday, November 18th, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 8, 1952 in Wessington Springs, SD, to LeRoy and Ellen (Meis) Reindl. The Reindl family moved to Custer in 1958. He was raised on the family ranch, and alongside his 10 siblings, became firmly rooted in the community he loved. Lyle went on to graduate from Custer High School in 1970.

He married Sherri Tracy in 1972, and together they raised three wonderful children. Lyle valued hard work and steadily built up his carpentry and construction skills while providing for his family for many years. He instilled the values of hard work, accountability, and having fun in his children.  He was the father, and grandfather, that always showed up, in a crisis, for a celebration, or to give his firm opinion.  In 1998, he returned to Custer, founded Reindl Construction, and built a successful residential and commercial construction business.

While successful in business, what he valued most were the many people in his life he called friends and family.  He made his rounds around town, smiling and joking.  Nobody escaped his good natured ribbing.   All of his favorite things: golfing, ice fishing, pheasant hunting, involved those he loved.  Even playing video lottery (his favorite "winter sport") wasn't as fun unless his friends were there.  His humor, his generosity, and his companionship will be deeply missed by so many.

He is survived by his former spouse, Sherri Reindl, of Fort Mojave, AZ; three children: Tracy (Dan) Palecek, of Rapid City, SD; Tanya Morrison, of Omaha, NE; and Nick Reindl, of Yakima, WA; 5 loving grandchildren (Cooper and Charley Morrison, and James, Georgia, and Jack Palecek); and eight siblings (Kathy, Wanda, Judy, Tim, Marge, Kevin, Leanne, and Mike). He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings (Lynette and Darryl).

A Vigil Service will be held at 6:30PM on Sunday, November 23rd at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The Catholic Funeral Mass will be at 10AM on Monday, November 24th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.  A reception to be held at the VFW Post 3442 (721 Mt. Rushmore Road, Custer) immediately following the Mass.

The family requests that memorial donations be directed to Black Hills Special Services Cooperative's Workforce Connections Program.  This is a program that helps supply tools and work gear for those pursuing work in the trades. Checks may be mailed to: BHSCC Workforce Connections, Attn Lori, 730 E Watertown St.  Rapid City, SD 57701, or given to family to donate.
