Obituary

.Marie Hill-Underwood, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away April 19, 2017, at the Seven Sisters Living Center in Hot Springs.

Marie was born on Feb 27, 1920, to Roy Duerson and Sylvia Darby. She was the oldest of five children at 97. Marie was raised on a ranch between Cascade and Ardmore and spent most of her life in Fall River County and northern Nebraska. As a young girl, she loved riding horses across the prairie and was fascinated to hear the changing sounds the hoofs made when she rode over a cave. She also learned to play the piano and continued playing most of her life.

Marie married Everett Hill on May of 1935, and lived on a ranch near Cascade for over 50 years as they raised 2 sons, Alan and Richard Hill. She and Everett had a passion for rocks, and when not tending to their ranching duties, they were out looking for petrified wood and Cycads. They were known at one point to have the largest private collection of Cycads in the world. One of the highlights of Marie's life was displaying them at a national gem and mineral show in Utah. Sadly, Everett passed away in 1993. In 1996, Marie married Ray Underwood and moved down near Crawford, NE, where they continued the passion for rocks and socializing, she always loved to chat. We will miss her. Marie was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Hot Springs.

Marie is survived by her son, Richard and Beverly Hill; grandson, Don and Alice Hill; granddaughter, Cari Hill and her daughters, Anne and Alyssa; niece, Sheri Bosse and family;sister-in-law, Maxine O'Connell and family; sister-in-law, Lorraine Davidson; nephew, Calvin and Julie Hill and family; niece, Karen Devine and family; as well as Ray's sons, Ted, Jerry, Garry and their families.

Marie was preceded in death by both her husbands; son, Alan; parents; step father, Louis Duerson; siblings, Francis, Billy, and Bobby and recently LeRoy Duerson.
