Marcel S. Greenia, 69, passed away Thursday, June 3, 2010, at his home near Hot Springs, SD.
Marcel was born July 2, 1940, at Casablanca Morocco, Africa to Simon Elkhim and was later adopted by Claude Greenia. At the age of six, he and his family moved to the United States.
Marcel served in the United States Army from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1961. He graduated from the University of Detroit Law School and went on to teach at Cooley Law School in East Lansing, MI. In 1984 Marcel married Ann Austin. From 1986 thru 1999 he served as a Federal Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration and from 1999 until his retirement in 2008 he was a Federal Administrative Law Judge for the Dept. of Interior. He enjoyed his work with the Native American cultures as a judge for the Dept. of Interior.
Marcel enjoyed being involved in the community and was a French Club Teacher, and member of the Hot Springs Library, Hot Springs Volunteer Ambulance Board, Hot Springs Arts Council, and South Dakota Grape Growers. He loved ranching, cooking, fly fishing, teaching French, learning about all that life has to offer and he especially loved his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Austin Greenia; son, Matthew (Kim) Greenia of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Nicole Greenia of West Palm Beach, FL and Megan Turner of Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Dr. George Greenia of Williamsburg, VA; David Greenia of Southfield, MI; and sister, Mary Greenia of Detroit MI.
Wake service will be at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 6, 2010, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Hot Springs with Fr. Thomas Tierney officiating.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 7, 2010, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church with Father Peter Kovarik officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
Memorials in Marcel's name may be sent to either the Hot Springs Volunteer Ambulance Service or Trout Unlimited.
