On a beautiful fall morning, October 16, 2012, Margaret (Peggy) Winterrowd went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She had been a resident of South Dakota State Veterans Home.
Peggy was born on 5th street in Hot Springs SD, on October 20, 1921. She moved with her family to Chicago, IL at the age of 4. Graduating from Lucy Flowers High School in 1941.
Peggy married Ira Bourland in Chicago on December 26, 1942. To this union, four children were born, Diane, Mike, George and Kathy. Peggy moved back to Hot Springs in 1965, after the passing of her father, George (Martha) Whitford. On June 3, 1971 she married Dwight Winterrowd and made her home with him on the ranch near Oelrichs, SD. She loved the ranch life but they soon retired to Hot Springs.
Peggy held several positions such as nurse aide at the VA and telephone operator, but her favorite was a nanny of a local family, after her retirement.
Peggy loved the Lord and her church family. She was active in church over the years, serving as Sunday school teacher for 12 years, Release Time teacher for 13 years and Youth group for 4 years. Peggy was very involved in the local jail ministry. For 5 years she brought a message of hope to the local inmates. She will be remembered by many for her words of encouragement and heart of love.
Peg volunteered at the VA Medical Center for 13 years. She was a member of the Hot Springs Senior Center, lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion Auxilary, BPO Does Post 47, serving as President for 2 terms.
Peggy had numerous hobbies and activities over the years. She loved to bowl, play pool and cards, enjoyed crafts, and travel. Her favorite was her grandchildren. She was the greatest Gra'ma who always had the time and love to share. She was also very proud of her Marty/Petty local heritage.
Peg was a strong and independent person who taught her kids to be the same. She will be remembered for her smile and time for a story.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Kathy Evans, Hot Springs; Diane (John) Price, Conover WI; 2 sons, George Bourland, Humboldt TN; and Mike Bourland, Hot Springs, SD; nine grandchildren, Ruth Ann, Jim and Dan Price. Adree Bourland, Kimberly (Chris ) Brooks. Luke (Beth) Broyles, Lacey (Zach) Rapp, Jinger Evans and Tanner Evans, and 12 great-grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 20, 2012, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs with Pastor Loyd Nielson officiating and visitation one hour prior to the funeral service.
Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
