Margaret Winifred Pierson (Marge), age 89, passed away September 16, 2010 at her home in Custer, SD.
Margaret was born in Norquay, Saskatchewan on September 12, 1921. At an early age she moved to Chester, SD, with her family. Margaret attended school in Chester graduating from high school in May of 1939.
After moving to Sioux Falls, SD, Margaret attended cosmetology school and operated several beauty shops in Sioux Falls until her retirement in 1979.
Margaret and her husband Duane moved to the Black Hills in 1979 to manage the Terry Peak Ski Lodge. In 1981 they both retired and moved to the Hill City area.
Margaret and Duane became active in Community Lutheran Church in Hill City and also the Lioness and Lions Clubs of Hill City.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; parents, Christine and Fred Baldwin; sons, Neil Carsrud and Douglas Carsrud; brothers, Lawrence, William and Gene Baldwin; sisters, Gertrude Brown and Dorothy Marth.
She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Mitchell of Custer; granddaughter, Lisa (Scott) Velgersdyk of Sioux Falls; great grandsons, Jared (Emily) Velgersdyk of Brookings, SD; Ryan (Nicole) Velgersdyk of Sioux Falls; four great great-grandchildren, Hayleigh; Sydnie; Caiden and Masen Velgersdyk of Brookings.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 19, 2010 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Custer.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 20, 2010, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills with Pastor Herb Cleveland and Pastor Craig Wexler officiating. Interment will follow at the Custer Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in Margaret's name to benefit the South Dakota Lions Eye Bank or the South Dakota Lions Foundation.
