Obituary

Margaret G. Samuels, age 92, formerly of Hot Springs, SD, and Chadron, NE, passed away on October 18, 2014, at the Fountain Springs Health Care Center in Rapid City, SD.

Margaret was born in Chadron on February 22, 1922, as the only child of Dr. Arthur and Florence (Hanna) Griot. She received all of her primary and high school education in Chadron. Margaret first attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and later transferred to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where she received a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree.

In 1958, she married Richard Samuels of Baird, NE, and they had one son, Mark. After their divorce in 1960, Margaret started to working on a career of her own at Sarah Coventry Jewelry and Judy Lee Jewelry. She became a district manager at both companies. In 1970, she became a nurse's aide at Chadron Community Hospital. She enjoyed the position so much that in 1974, she decided to attend nursing school and received her LPN degree in 1977. Margaret returned to Chadron Community Hospital as an LPN. In late 1978, she started working at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Hot Springs where she spent the rest of her career in the alcohol and drug dependency unit until she retired in 2003.

During her lifetime, Margaret was involved with the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was still a member of the American Legion Auxiliary at the time of her death.

Margaret is survived by her son, Mark (Lori) Samuels of Hot Springs, SD.

Committal services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 30, 2014, at the Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron, with Mark Crist officiating.
