Marie Rachel Spence, age 98, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away October 25, 2009 at the Fall River Hospital in Hot Springs.

Marie was born December 28, 1910 in Butte, NE to Frederick and Caroline (Scherer) Magstadt. She attended Herrick Public School in Herrick, SD. Marie began working at the Print Office and became a homemaker when she married William E. Spence on October 8, 1926. She enjoyed playing basketball while she was in school. Marie was voted Mother of the Church at Fountain of Life Assembly of God Church. She dearly loved her family, Church family and Brookside family.

Grandma Marie will be greatly missed by her caregivers, Joe and Leora Dappen and their children, Leslie and Leona, as well as her many friends, especially Linda and Arlene.

Survivors include daughter, Margaret (Lester) Dappen of Omaha, NE; daughter-in-law, Ruth Spence of Newcastle, WY; sister, Viola Blythe of Farmingdale, MI; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Spence; son, William J. Spence; parents; seven brothers and sisters; one granddaughter and one grandson.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Fountain of Life Assembly of God Church in Hot Springs.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 30, 2009 at the Fountain of Life Assembly of God Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Edwin Cutler officiating.

Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2009 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

The family requests that memorials in Marie's name be sent to Fountain of Life Assembly of God Church, 1828 University Avenue, Hot Springs, SD 57747.
