Marie Eleonora Wilson was born in Buffalo Gap, SD, to Ane Andersen Petersen and Charles Petersen on November 28, 1913 and died on March 1, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She attended country schools and later graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1931. She attended beauty college in Denver. She opened a beauty shop in her home in Buffalo Gap and continued in the hairdressing profession for several years.
She married Jack Nolan in 1934 . They were later divorced and in 1964 she married Owen Wilson. They lived in Las Vegas for 40 years, spending some of their summers at the Petersen ranch near Buffalo Gap.
Many a stray kitty found a home with Marie and Owen over the years and they were devoted caregivers for each one of them!
She worked in civil service for a few years and later in hotel management. She was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.
The last few years she has lived at Westhills Village where she enjoyed making new friends and renewing old friendships from her Buffalo Gap days. She appreciated the many kindnesses from fellow
residents who wrote their messages to her when she could no longer hear.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Owen Wilson, her brothers, Paul Andersen and George Andersen, and her sister, Estella Helgeson.
She is survived by two nieces, Marilyn McKay of Michigan City, IN and Marlene Tobias of Rapid City and one nephew, Glenn Andersen of Lincoln NE She is also survived by two step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, including Michele McNett of Box Elder, four step great-great grandchildren and many step nieces and nephews . In addition she is survived by special friends, Beth Audette, and Connie Howie of Rapid City and Dan Van Horn of Las Vegas.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
Services will be held at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 10, 2011 with Rev. Peter Dahlberg officiating. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
A memorial has been established in Marie's name to benefit the American Heart Association,
