Marilyn Jane Grimes, 73, of Lombard, IL died December 16, 2006 at her daughter's home in Chicago, IL.
Marilyn was born July 28, 1933 in Pierre, SD. Marilyn received her BSN in 1971 and MSN in 1973 from the University of Illinois Chicago; Certification American Nurses Association; and Credentialing Center Clinical Specialist in Psychiatric, Mental Health Nursing 1978-2003. She held nursing licenses in SD, CO, MN, IL and PA.
Marilyn was a registered nurse with the DuPage County Psychiatric Crisis Center in Lombard. She held positions of staff nurse, charge nurse, supervisor, administrator, researcher, clinical specialist, project coordinator, educator for community members, high school students, undergraduate and graduate nursing students, and private duty. She worked in general, government and psychiatric hospitals; nursing long term care facilities, clinics, doctor's offices and served as camp nurse. She gave research and educational presentations in Illinois; coast to coast in the US, from New York to California; Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada, Groningen the Netherlands; Budapest, Hungary; Dublin, Ireland; Seoul, Korea; Taipei, Taiwan; Turku, Finland; Glasgow, Scotland and Canberra, Australia.
Marilyn was involved in church and professional activities. She enjoyed babysitting and attending activities with her grandchildren; traveling; volunteering as a teacher, board member, chairperson president and nurse for multiple organizations community and professional.
Marilyn is survived by her loving children, Mark (Ellen) Grimes of Spokane, WA; Christine (Patrick) Broenneke of Chicago, IL; Paul Grimes of Cary, IL; her cherished grandchildren, David and John Grimes; Jake, Katie and Gary Broenneke and Kristen and Erik Grimes and their mother, Eva Grimes.
Preceded in death in 1992 by her husband, Walter W. Grimes, who she married in 1955.
A visitation will be held 12:00 pm, Thursday, December 21, 2006 until time of funeral service. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard, IL with Reverend Mark Post officiating.
Committal services will be held 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 28, 2006 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD with Pastor Willard Olsen officiating.
