Marilyn was born in Hot Springs, SD, on December 12, 1935, to Douglas and Helen Miller. She was raised in the surrounding Oelrichs community through H.S. graduation in 1954. At age 9, Marilyn contracted polio and wore a brace the rest of her life. During her high school years, she loved babysitting for many families in the area. She attended Rapid City business college that fall. She married David Lloyd Johnson on December 31, 1954 and they lived in Rapid City while David was stationed at the Air Force Base. They moved to multiple states while David was coaching and then settled back in Edgemont and Hot Springs when they retired. Marilyn worked at the Library in Edgemont, taking the opportunity to see and help those in her community.

Living in the Black Hills area allowed them to see their grandchildren frequently and live close to Marilyn's sisters. They lived near their son Curtis, his wife Debbie, and their five children who gave them constant care, support, and love. Debbie always made arrangements to take Marilyn along on family activities, even camping and hunting. When Curtis' family moved to Laramie, their son Joe stayed to move in with his grandparents for all his High School years. Joe helped take care of them always ensuring snow was removed and running errands. When Marilyn needed to move out of her home, she moved to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living Center, in Spearfish, SD, close to her sister Donna. After a year, Marilyn moved back to Hot Springs to Seven Sister Living Center. She received warm and special care from the nurses and staff, evident in her cheerful attitude and vibrant smile, and enjoyed frequent visits and phone calls from all her children and grandchildren.

Marilyn devoted her entire life around service to her Lord, her husband David, of 60 years, her children, and grandchildren. She maintained a high level of devotion to her children and grandchildren, always being there to see them and actively be involved in their lives. They will all tell you of how she sang hymns to them, did bible studies with them, always lots of hugs and kisses, and set them straight when they needed it. Marilyn reached out in unconditional love and kindness to all around her; always helping everyone in any way she could. She was an 'angel on earth' and actively followed Jesus' calling for discipleship to 'love your neighbor as yourself'. Marilyn had an unshakable faith in her Savior Jesus Christ, constantly reading her bible, daily prayer, and sharing the Love of God. Her beautiful smile and loving spirit touched many lives every day of her life.

Marilyn is survived by 5 children: Terry Kucera of San Diego, CA, Pam Choal of Chamberlain, SD, Lori Choal of Casper, WY, Curtis Johnson of Laramie, WY, and Bryce Johnson of Laramie, WY.

18 Grandchildren: Ryan Walker, Melissa Flowerdew, Erica Rahr, Trisha Walker, Krista Schoeppner, Tenelle Choal, Tyler Choal, Drew Choal, Ashley Singleton, Taylor Choal, Torrey Johnson, Joe Johnson, Lacey Johnson, Austin Johnson, Cody Johnson, Bridgette Johnson, Brayleigh Johnson, and Breckarys Johnson.

14 Great Grandchildren: Adelaide Walker, Coraline Walker, Roselyn Rahr, Tabitha Rahr, Sadie Flowerdew, TY Schoeppner, Trey Schoeppner, Roni RaeJean Walker, Elijah Singleton, Grace Singleton, Wyatt Choal, Paityn Johnson, Kayson Johnson, and Jaidyn Johnson.

5 sisters, 3 sisters-in-law: Marjorie Harris, Donna Perrett, Janet Tift, Nancy Adrien, Carol Harding, Teresa Miller, Pat Johnson, and Lynda Biers.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband David Johnson, infant daughter Arietta Marie, parents, grandparents, and brother Keith Miller.

Family Funeral Services were held on Mon, August 17, 2020 at McColley's Chapel, in Hot Springs, SD. Marilyn was buried at Black Hills National Cemetery, SD, along with her husband and infant daughter.
