Marion R. (Dolly) Massey, 87, passed away on June 9, 2017, at her home in Hot Springs, SD.
Dolly was born November 21, 1929, to Roy D. and Mary E. (Steele) Pierce in Martin, SD. Dolly was the youngest of five children, brothers; Harry Whitehead, Roy "Sam" Pierce; sisters, Lorene Dickinson, Marie Page. She married Tom Massey on October 17, 1947, in Hot Springs, and raised 3 children.
Dolly attended Hot Springs High School and then worked in several hospitals, including, Sisters Hospital, the Lutheran Hospital and West River Crippled Children's Hospital, as a nurse's aide. Dolly continued in that profession until retiring at 80 years of age. After her extensive travels, through out the United States with her husband's employment, they returned to Hot Springs, to retire. Dolly was active in civic education, political and religious organizations, through out her life. She was strong, loving, stubborn, hardworking… the backbone of the family.
Dolly is survived by her sons, Tom L. Massey of Rapid City, SD; Terry G. Massey of Hot Springs; daughter, Linda B. Valandra of Hot Springs; granddaughter, Bethany (Adam) Cook and great granddaughter, Taryn Cook of Hot Springs,
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Chamberlain-McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
Funeral services will be held, 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with Fr. Claude Vershure officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.
