Obituary

Mark Steven Anderson of Rapid City, SD, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. He was 53 years old.

Mark was born in Hot Springs, October 1, 1956, to Carl and Leana (Krutsch) Anderson. He attended school in Hot Springs graduating in 1974. He attended Chadron State College and soon after began working for Burlington Northern Railroad as a welder until 2006 when he took a medical retirement.

In 1988 he married Gabriele Kuechly, living in Hot Springs before moving to Rapid City. Mark loved to go rock hunting, starting when he was a small boy going with his parents and grandparents. He spent hours with his "rock hunting buddies" cutting and polishing his beautiful Fairburn Agates. He made jewelry and also enjoyed silversmithing and faceting gem stones, a hobby he took up in later years. Mark also collected coins, fossils and old bottles. He was very active in the Rapid City Gem and Mineral Society. Mark and Gabriele enjoyed many trips to Germany.

He is survived by his wife, Gabriele of Rapid City; his parents, Carl and Leana Anderson of Hot Springs; brother, John (Debra) Anderson of Hermosa; sisters, Janette (Bill) Kirkpatrick and Lori Anderson of Hot Springs; his mother-in-law, Karoline Kuechly and brother-in-law, Guenter (Britta) Kuechly of Germany; five nephews and three nieces.

Preceding Mark in death were his grandparents, Paul and Bertha Krutsch and Fay and Evlyn Anderson.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 23, 2010, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 24, 2010, at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Hot Springs with Pastor Jake Jacobson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.

A memorial has been established in Mark's name, contributions can be sent to the Mark Anderson Memorial Fund, c/o Carl and Leana Anderson, 2145 Washington, Avenue, Hot Springs, SD 57747.
