Obituary
Mark Edward Himrich, age 51, of Custer, SD, passed away June 3, 2013, at the Custer Regional Hospital.
Mark was born August 23, 1961 in Perham, MN. He was the first born child of Ed and Fran Himrich. The family moved to Custer, SD, in 1962. The very next day after arriving Mark celebrated his first birthday. From that time on, the Black Hills were his favorite place on earth. He had a passion for fishing, hunting, skiing, and all of God's creatures.
Mark graduated from Custer High School in 1980, attended the University of South Dakota and obtained his DDS at the University of Minnesota in 1987. Mark and Lorraine (Manahan) were married in St. Charles, MN, in 1986. Their son Aaron was born in 1987, and their daughter Galen was born in 1990. Zach completed their family in 2002. Mark completed RCIA classes and joined the Catholic Church in 2004. Following his stroke a year ago Mark deepened his faith life and spirituality. He lived everyday like it was a gift. He revered any and all conversations as a blessing and truly appreciated the friends he made. His "network" of friendships was always growing.
Mark had a great love of life as well as for his family, friends, and his patients. His infectious sense of humor will always be remembered as well as his remarkable ability for story-telling.
Mark is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Custer; son, Aaron Himrich of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Galen Himrich of Plymouth, MN; son, Zach McLain of Sheridan, WY; parents, Ed and Fran Himrich of Custer; sister, Connie Keintz of Boca Raton, FL; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Matthew.
A vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Custer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Tim Hoag officiating.
Committal services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Custer Cemetery in Custer.
A memorial has been established in Mark's name to benefit either St. John's Building Fund or the education of his children.
