IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark David
Morrissey
September 6, 1955 – February 1, 2020
Mark David Morrissey was born September 6, 1955 in Evanston, Illinois to William H Morrisey and Anita Margaret Morrissey. After his high school years in New Jersey, Mark lived in California and eventually settled in Morrill, Nebraska where he worked as an over-the-road truck driver and as an electrical lineman. In 1999, Mark married his life partner [Susan] and together they established their restaurant, "Our Place," in Custer, South Dakota. After Susan's passing nine years later, Mark continued to operate the café and kept her dream alive until his retirement in May 2019.
During retirement, Mark's passion for the open road came on the back of his Harley Davidson Road King. In true biker form, Mark logged in excess of 100,000 miles across the United States visiting with family and friends along the way. Mark spent his spare time from the road watching Fox News and listening to his favorite Band "The Grateful Dead."
When Mark received his diagnosis, it was dealt with as a true believer. In addressing his family, he told them that, while this would be his final trip, it was his blessing to be reunited with the love of his life.
Armed with that courage and belief in God, Mark passed away on the first of February. In lieu of a memorial or flowers, the family would ask that anyone wishing to donate, do so in Mark's name to either of his favorite charities, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Foundation or Monument Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Blessed to be included in his life are his sister Julie Willis –[Stu] of Denville, New Jersey and their children (Danielle and Christopher); brother Jason Morrissey [Anne] of Overland Park, Kansas and their children (Jack, Connor, and Elizabeth); brother Todd Morrissey [Nicole] of Elkhorn, Nebraska and their children (Miles and Morgan); and sister-in –law Stacy Reynolds [Mike Carter] of Custer South Dakota. Also, Mark's work and activities included many friends from the Custer area and his road family, as well as other life-long friends from New Jersey and extended family mostly in Nebraska.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 14, 2020, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Custer, SD.
