IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha 'Bunny'
P. Colyer
April 19, 1933 – November 4, 2024
'Bunny' Colyer. 91, of Custer, SD, passed away November 4, 2024, at her home in Custer. Bunny was born Martha P. Masters on April 19, 1933, to Lawrence and Martha (Korthaus) Masters in Custer, South Dakota. She was the oldest of three, Eddie being second and Dana third. Bunny and her siblings would ice skate to and from school on French Creek along Lower French Creek Road. She played the bass drum in the marching band, so she became the "Energizer Bunny".
She met Kenny Colyer while dating a friend of his. Kenny was driving, their eyes met in the rearview mirror and the rest is history. He was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base from 1947 to 1951 and they were married October 10, 1951. Kenny was a farm boy from Indiana and they moved there and had a son, John in 1953. Bunny was a housewife while Kenny worked at a Owen-Illinois Glass Factor for 42 years, both of them participating in Eastern Stars and Masons.
When the factory closed in 1981, Bunny and Kenny moved to Louisiana and then to Custer in 1988. They attended Custer Berean Fellowship, later called Southern Hills Bible Church. Bunny was active at church, attending faithfully every Sunday and playing the piano for years. Perhaps her favorite way to love others was through hugs-she would smile her big smile and greet people with a question, "Where's my hug?" For young and old, such hugs were a part of attending church each week.
Bunny was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Kenny (2007); her brother, Eddie who died in Korea and her sister, Dana.
She is survived by her son, John (Kathy) Colyer of Custer; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews in Indiana, Tennessee, Arizona and Colorado.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2025, at Southern Hills Bible Church in Custer, SD.
Memorials may be sent to Gideons.
