Obituary

Dr. Marvin Green Norris, age 104, died peacefully at home in Hot Springs, South Dakota on February 27, 2025. He was born on April 5, 1920, to Paul D. and Gladys Green Norris in Rush County, Indiana.

During WWII, he served his country as a Chief Pharmacist's Mate in the Navy from 1942-1945. Supported by the GI Bill, he attended Indiana University, where he met his wife Dorothy Raisovich. They were married June 11, 1949, and he graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1952. He completed his one-year internship at San Joaquin General Hospital in California, then returned to Rushville, IN where he was a general practitioner and delivered over 1000 babies. He moved to Hot Springs, SD in 1972 to become a staff physician at the VA Medical Center. He served as Chief of Staff from 1975 until his retirement in 1987.

Marvin loved the Black Hills. He and Dorothy enjoyed hiking, swimming at Evans Plunge, and in later years daily walks and cribbage. He was also an avid reader, life-long student, and a devoted Indiana University football and basketball supporter.

In addition to his wife Dorothy, Marvin is survived by daughters Deborah (Wil), Rebecca (Alex) and Mary (Carolyn), as well as several loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.

He was proceeded in death by sons David, Michael, and Marvin, as well as brothers Will and Paul.

Marvin contributed to several organizations that he felt made a difference in the world. In his memory, feel free to do the same.

A private service will be held.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD.
