Obituary

Marvin Lee Seachris, 77, of rural Oral, SD went home to be with his Savior on Saturday, November 16th. He is now free of the earthly struggles of COPD and a short battle with cancer that he endured.

Marvin was born on October 24, 1936 to Charles and Mary Seachris in Wynoka, OK. He was the youngest of 8 siblings. He always said, "my parents kept looking for the perfect child- they quit when they got me". The Seachris family moved from Oklahoma to Lyman County in South Dakota when Marvin was only 5 years old. There he worked hard on the family ranch while attending school in Reliance. The family moved a few years later to Pierre and at the age of 16 Marvin moved back to Presho and got a job working for Sather Drilling with his brother Bill. He also worked for Presho Ready Mix and helped build the Oahe & Big Bend Dams. Marvin and Bill later purchased the Sather Drilling business. In 1956 Marvin married Patricia Flansburg; to this union three children were born: Pamela K., Shanning L., and Clay M.

After spending years looking for his soul mate, Marvin was united in marriage to Daisy Lauing on March 12, 1983 in Presho, SD. This marriage brought four more children into Marvin's life; Tom, Denny, Shannon & JD. Marvin and Daisy started the New Life Boarding Home to care for elderly in Presho. Shortly after starting it Marvin retired from Sather Drilling. When they sold their Boarding Home in Presho they moved to rural Blunt, SD. They continued to provide elderly residential care and Marvin started an excavation backhoe business. In 2005 Marvin and Daisy moved to a small ranch in rural Oral, SD. Marvin continued with his backhoe business and they cared for veterans in their home until Marvin was diagnosed with cancer and started treatments.

Marvin loved to laugh and hug everyone he met. He was an amazing husband, father, step-father, brother, grandfather and friend. He had a passion for the Gospel, his family, old cars, and country music –especially Conway Twitty. He was a very humble and proud Christian who always cared for and put others before himself. He and Daisy attended the Wesleyan Church in Hot Springs. Marvin was a talented handyman who could fix anything and complete any project that he and Daisy could dream up. His last concerns were unfinished business—when asked what kind of business he said his outdoor projects. For those of you who know Marvy best, there was always another project to be completed, and this he deemed unfinished business.
