Obituary

Marvin L. Wilkinson of Hot Springs passed away on May 19, 2014 at Hot Springs, SD. Marvin was born on March 29, 1921, in Chadron, NE, to George and Lola (Jackson) Wilkinson. He attended Chadron public Schools K-12 graduating in May 1939. He then attended University of Nebraska, receiving his BS in Agriculture in June, 1943. Soon after graduation, in November 1943, he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant. On Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1943, he married June Isabelle Jameson in Chadron. To this union one daughter, Carolyn Kay, was born.

Marvin was then assigned to Field Artillery units in Oklahoma and the Philippines, where he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He was released from active duty in September 1946. Upon release, he taught agriculture briefly, before working for the Bureau of Reclamation and the Soil Conservation Service, mapping soils in the Big Horn Basin of Wyoming. In March 1953, he and his family moved to unit #1 of the Angostura Irrigation Project near Hot Springs, SD, farming and ranching there and in Nebraska until retirement in 1990.

After retirement June and Marvin, traveled to both coasts, Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, and nearly every year to Michigan to see their daughter. He and his wife both became involved in Genealogical Research on family lines and made several trips, following the paths of their Ancestors.

In July 2013, Marvin and June moved from Unit #1 to Pine Hills Retirement Community, where they made many new friends and renewed old acquaintances.

Marvin is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Kay Crawford of Midland, MI; as well as nieces and nephews in Gillette, WY, and Los Angeles, CA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June, parents, George and Lola (Jackson) Wilkinson; brother, Clarence Edgar and sister, Thelma Gail Brown.

Visitation will be one hour prior to Services.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014, at The United Churches in Hot Springs with Pastor Clint Walker officiating. Final burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery, Chadron, NE.

Memorials may be offered to the United Church of Hot Springs or to Chadron State's Agriculture & Rangeland Management Program, Chadron State Collage, Chadron, NE.
