Mary May Herbert, age 97, of Custer, SD, passed away on September 8, 2014, at the Custer Regional Senior Care Center in Custer, SD.
Mary May (Crum) Herbert, daughter of Floyd and Currant (McCormick) Crum was born on May 31, 1917 at Auburn, NE. Mary was one of 3 children. She received her education at the Auburn Public Schools. Mary and Stanley had no children but dearly loved their nieces and nephews who came for a visit to their "beloved hills" every summer. Both so proud of their states, many memories are re-lived time and time again from visits to MT. Rushmore, Wind Cave and Stanley's favorite Bear Country.
Mary worked proudly and with great love as she welcomed many visitors at the Custer Museum, always sharing the history of South Dakota as well as answering questions from tourists.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Stanley, and sisters, Elizabeth Crum and Grace Parde and brother-in-law Heye Parde.
Those left to mourn her passing are nieces and nephews, Randy and Jan Parde of Marshall, Minn., Marilyn and Lonnie Swanson, Johnson, NE., Carolyn and Mike Harvill of Shawnee Mission, KS., Heye Jr. and Wendy Parde of York, PA., and Darryl and Barb Parde of Hastings, NE.
