Obituary

Mary Loretta Sorenson Wolcott, age 84, of Edgemont, SD, passed away on October 8, 2014, at the Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs, SD.

Mary was born September 2, 1930, in Sturgis, SD, to Christian Martin and Arthela Elizabeth (Carr) Sorenson. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1948, marrying John A. Beehler in September of that same year and to this union 7 children were born. For the next 31 years, she was busy raising her family.

In 1975, she married Raymond H. Wolcott. When they retired in 2003, they
moved from Edgemont to Rapid City where they enjoyed Black Hills living. After Ray's passing, she and her dog, Beau, moved back to Edgemont to be near Mary's many friends and her daughter, Janet. In 2014, she moved to Castle Manor due to health issues. Mary's house was a social hub with the coffee pot always on, a crossword puzzle in the process of being solved, and a good visit at the kitchen table. She was a charter member of Buttons and Bows Club which she remained active in for her entire life, fostering life-long friendships. Mary drove a railroad taxi and waited tables at many local restaurants. She opened an arcade and became mom to many of the kids in town. Mary also wrote and published many country and western songs.
