Obituary

Matthew (Matt-Man) Alan Braun was born April 27, 1992 and died August 12, 2014. Matthew was born in Pueblo, Colorado and resided in Custer, South Dakota. He was proceeded in death by his paternal grandfather Wally Braun.

He is survived by his parents Mark and Jean Braun of Penrose, Colorado; sister Stephani Braun of Coal Creek, Colorado, paternal grandmother Phyllis Braun of Canon City, Colorado; maternal grandmother Henrietta Brown of Canon City, Colorado; maternal grandfather John (Toni) Evans of Canon City, Colorado and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Early in life Matt-Man was active in shooting sports and attended the All American Grand Trap Shoot in 2006. He continued his love of shooting and hunting and at age 12 killed his first elk. Matt also pursued athletics and began wrestling in 7th grade and continued thru his junior year. He also was a member of the golf team at Florence High School. Matt's keen mechanical mind led him to become a competent welder. Soon after graduation, Matt went to work in the oil fields in Colorado and North Dakota. Matt was always characterized by his peers as competent, enthusiastic and a hard worker.

His love of life, compassion for others and sense of humor was fostered by special people in his life including "Grandpa" Dick Brady; Zach Cutter who was like a big brother; and best friend Spencer Drake. Matthew had a special place in the family of Alan and Sherril Woolsey - Niki, Sami, Dani, and "little brother" Dalton. Matthew's charismatic personality touched the lives of countless others everywhere he went.

In every way, Matthew truly was an extension of his BFF - his dad Mark. Their relationship personified love, mutual respect and a friendship that was unlike any other. This great friendship often led others to say or believe that they were more like brothers than father and son. His mom Jean was blessed with the responsibility of raising "the boys". Matthew deeply loved his mom and their relationship was solid, unconditional and a shaping force in his life.

Matthew will forever be in our hearts. Let each of us remember him when we hear the bugle of an elk and when we see beautiful sunsets.
