Melvin Wayne Nachtigall, age 84, of Hot Springs, SD, passed away, February 12, 2016, at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs.
Melvin was born December 30, 1931, Harry A. and Rebecca (Gisselbeck) Nachtigall, in Marion, SD. Melvin proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. He lived in the Denver, CO, area most of his life. While in Denver, Melvin worked at the Federal Correctional Prison as a Prison Guard for about 20 years.
Melvin loved the Hills, mountains, streams and lakes and he was always photographing the beautiful scenery. Melvin made several trips back to South Dakota and the Black Hills because he enjoyed them so much. He had lived at Pennington Co. Housing, Holiday Hills Estates and most recently at Rose Haven Assisted Living in Custer, SD.
Melvin is survived by his sister, Joyce Kinner of Anderson, IN; brothers, Gene (Jean) Nachtigall of Hot Springs; Robert (Barb) Nachtigall of Springfield, IL; John Nachtigall; special cousin, Twyla Solly of New Rockford, ND; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Committal services will be held 2:30 p.m., Thursday, February 18, 2016, at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD, with Dr. J. Edwin Coates officiating.
